About Us

Our Story

Students Leading Educational Opportunities (SLEO) was founded by a team of 9-13 year olds. Originally known under the name St. Louis Rubik's Cube Community (STLRCC), our founders were looking for ways to not only help kids stay at home but also build community amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. With a few volunteers, they offered online classes and competitions for individuals across Missouri, even reaching students in Wisconsin and Australia.

However, what was simply a club grew into a non-profit organization when the founders noticed how inaccessible many academic spaces were, especially in St. Louis. Whether it be expensive private coaching or resources hidden behind paywalls, the activities our volunteers were passionate about carried fees unaffordable to many communities.

In 2022, SLEO officially gained non-profit status. The organization expanded to include chess and debate.

SLEO is dedicated to bridging educational gaps and extending opportunity to all.
