The St. Louis Chess Club kicked off its annual series of Grand Prix Tournaments on October 26 with the Halloween Havoc Tournament, marking an exciting start to the chess season. This year’s tournament welcomed nearly 130 young players from the local area, creating a lively atmosphere as participants competed in their first official match of the season. From October through April, students play for individual and team trophies during monthly Swiss-system tournaments. Over the course of seven tournaments, players and teams compete for season prizes and trophies.

The Halloween Havoc is the first of seven tournaments the club will host this year, setting the stage for what promises to be an exciting series of events celebrating youth chess in St. Louis. The tournament provided an encouraging environment for young chess enthusiasts to showcase their skills and engage with fellow players in a supportive setting.

This year SLEO chess team has 13 K-6 players and 4 K-12 players. They brought home significant achievements in this tournament. Two kids got Top Unrated individually. The K-6 team claimed a remarkable 2nd place in the group standing, showcasing the strength and depth of the younger players. Meanwhile, the K-12 team also delivered a solid performance, finishing in 3rd place overall. The player’s achievements are a promising start to the season and have set a high standard for future competitions.
