SLEO Chess Club Excels at St. Louis Chess Club’s Tournament

The St. Louis Chess Club hosted the second tournament in its annual Grand Prix series on November 16, welcoming nearly 100 young players from the local area. The event created a lively atmosphere as participants competed in their first official match of the season. From October through April, students participate in monthly Swiss-system tournaments, vying for individual and team trophies. Over the course of seven tournaments, players and teams strive for season-long prizes and accolades. This tournament offered an encouraging environment for young chess enthusiasts to showcase their skills and connect with fellow players in a supportive setting.
This year, the SLEO chess team made an impressive showing with seven K-6 players and three K-12 players, earning significant achievements in the tournament. David Huang claimed the Top Under 600 title in the K-6 Open category, while Jennie Liang was recognized as the Top Female in the K-6 Open. Rayden Lin excelled with a fourth-place finish in the K-12 Open category.
The K-6 team, comprising David Chung, Linci Hong, David Huang, Andy Li, Jennie Liang, Joshua Sun, and YuAng Xie, delivered an outstanding performance, securing first place in the group standings with an impressive nine points. Their collective achievements highlight the strength and depth of the younger players, setting a promising tone for the rest of the season and establishing a high benchmark for future competitions.
