SLEO Chess Club wins 1st Place for Team at the Snowflake Classic on December 21, 2024

On Saturday, December 21, 2024, the St. Louis Chess Club hosted the Snowflake Scholastic Chess Tournament at the Il Monastro Banquet Center at Saint Louis University. This tournament attracted many young players from different schools to play and enjoy chess, as well as make new friends. There were 71 players in the K-6 Open section and 55 players in the K-12 Open section; among them, 18 players in the K-6 Open section and 5 players in the K-12 Open section were from SLEO.

For many players, this was their first time going to the Il Monastro Banquet Center, which had great decorations and paintings for the young players to enjoy and admire.

The SLEO chess team did a magnificent job, and all 23 players did their best. In the K-6 section, SLEO won the first place team trophy. Lisa Cheng earned “the Top Under 800” award in the K-6 Open Section by winning 2 out of the 4 rounds, and Charlotte Wang won the “Top Female” award in the K-6 Open Section by winning 3 out of the 4 rounds. Honorable mentions include Linci Hong, Jack Tang, Phillip Xie and Max Zvolensky, each also winning 3 out of the 4 rounds.

Congratulations to SLEO and big thanks to Alvin He who helped these young players review their games. Best of luck to the team in future tournaments!
