On January 18th, 2025, the St. Louis Chess Club hosted the Blizzard Bowl, the fourth tournament of the seven-tournament 2024-2025 Scholastic Grand Prix, at the Il Monastero Banquet Center at Saint Louis University. Il Monastero, a historic and elegant venue, looked particularly charming in the snow that day. Despite the freezing temperatures outside, the center was warm and inviting, filled with young chess players, parents, and coaches.
A total of 112 players participated in the tournament, with 48 competing in the K6 Open and 64 in the K12 Open.
The SLEO team had 9 players in the K6 Open and 5 in the K12 Open. The team performed exceptionally well, securing 1st place in the K6 division and 4th place in the K12 division. Additionally, Jack Tang placed 6th in the K6 Open Individuals, winning 3 out of 4 rounds, while Cayla Cheng earned the top U800 spot, also winning 3 out of 4 rounds.
Congratulations to all the players for their fantastic performance! This is a great start to the new year, and we look forward to seeing you again at the next tournament, Chess Carnival 2025, which will be held on February 1.
