On October 12th, SLEO launched its initiative to promote the presence of girls in chess with an all-girls simul, the first in a series of planned events. The event attracted 12 participants, and many parents and staff members were also in attendance, creating a supportive and engaging environment for all involved.
Event Highlights
As part of the day’s excitement, SLEO welcomed Grandmaster Jeffery Xiong as a special guest. In addition to the simul, Xiong entertained the boys from the SLEO community by playing several fast-paced blitz games. More about Grandmaster Xiong can be found in the introductory article for this event.

Key Takeaways
The event was a huge success, with plenty of fun and enthusiasm. Despite a slight overindulgence in milk tea, which led to a minor case of hyperactivity, the event was an energetic and promising start to SLEO’s mission of increasing female participation in chess.
With this exciting kickoff, SLEO is looking forward to more events that will inspire and empower young girls in the chess community.
